History
Siddhagad literally Valour Fort is a small fort located in Thane District, in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the place where Indian revolutionary and freedom fighter Veer Bhai Kotwal was assassinated by British officials. Siddhagad literally means Valour Fort, Siddhagad is also known in the Indian Freedom movement as two freedom fighters Bhai Kotwal & Hiraji Patil were shot dead at this place by Britisher on 2nd Jan 1943. Siddhagad is the only fort in Maharashtra that contributed to the independence war against British rule 1857-1947. There is a memorial of those freedom fighters on the other route to Siddhagad climbing from the opposite side of Narivali Village.
How to reach
The trek route from Narivali village is about 9km to the top and is gradually well-marked and prominent. No chance of losing the way. This village also lies near the road and has good connectivity with public transport. The trek route from Borwadi village is about 3.5km to 4km to the top. The route is steep but one gains height quickly. However, this village is a remote en route to Siddhagad waterfall. No public transport here, however, one can book. Entry tickets are needed from this route. The road is rough and offroad from this route.
